over to distilled water two days
before the show because it has
no sodium, which retains water
and causes the bodybuilder to
look bloated and puffy onstage.
I also don’t believe in taking
diuretics to eliminate interstitial
fluid, because that leads to the
loss of too much water and size.
This time Lou looked fantastic
and managed to place 10th at
the 1993 Mr. Olympia. He wasn’t
really sure what to do next,
when suddenly right out of the
blue, the IFBB announced that a
Masters Mr. Olympia was being
introduced in 1994, and at the
age of 41, Lou Ferrigno
immediately threw his hat into
the ring. Basically, there were
only three great bodybuilders
who had any chance of winning
this show, and Lou, after his two
previous attempts at the big one,
was, to his surprise, the odd’s-
on favourite to take the show.
The other two competitors
were Boyer Coe and Robby
Robinson, who had always kept in
tremendous shape even if they
had not been competing regularly.
In the end, it came down to a very
close fight to the finish between
these three great legendary
bodybuilders, and Robby, who
had been secretly training in
Europe produced a physique
package that was simply faultless.
He took the title due to his
superior shape, symmetry and
fantastic contest condition.
After this show, Lou
finally called it a day and retired
from the terrific physical demands
of pro bodybuilding. Since then,
he has continued to fare well in
the world of entertainment all over
the world. Today aged 65, he is
content and happy that his
bodybuilding competitions are
behind him. Because, let’s face it,
he really did try his absolute best
to win that elusive Mr. Olympia
crown, and despite the fact that
he continues to be the best-
known bodybuilder in the world
after Arnold, he is still one of
the greatest bodybuilders of
all time. FLEX
