RED BULL
http://www.redbull.com/sg-en

X THEY SAY
One of the most popular energy drinks,
Red Bull gives you wings to leap over any
obstacle that may befall you. With doses
of ca eine, taurine, amino acids, B-group
vitamins that regulate bodily functions,
and fresh alpine water, it gives you the
boost you need for every last stretch.

X WHAT WE LIKED
An almost instant injection of energy,
particularly with the intense taste that
seems to provide satisfaction after
a workout. Best served chilled.

X WHAT WE DIDN’T LIKE
It’s too sweet to be an ideal thirst
quencher. "The boost of energy you get is
due to its sugar content," says Jaclyn
Reutens, a clinical and sports dietitian at
Aptima Nutrition and Sports Consultants.
"It contains ca eine too, which is a
stimulant, and is not recommended as a
sports drink. But if you like the
taste, use it sensibly."

LUCOZADE
SPORT
ORIGINAL
$0.85 to $1.50,
http://www.suntory.com

X THEY SAY
The No. 1 sports drink in the UK,
Lucozade is formulated to maintain
hydration, improving performance and
endurance levels. Widely acclaimed by
many sportsmen and gym-goers, this is
the go-to isotonic drink for any athlete.

X WHAT WE LIKED
It tastes like lemonade and is refreshing

  • one of the bet er-tasting isotonic
drinks. It may be carbonated but it
does not cause a bloating sensation. "It's
an isotonic drink that is designed to
hydrate well and can be easily absorbed
by your body," says Jaclyn. "It can also
    help boost your recovery time."

X WHAT WE DIDN’T LIKE
It does not seem to be strong
enough when it comes to refuelling
the body post-run.

VITA COCO
COCONUT
WATER
$1.90 (330ml),
http://www.vitacoco.com/sg

X THEY SAY
Made with 100 percent coconut
water with no preservatives,
colourants or fl avourings, this is
one of the freshest hydrating
coconut water you can fi nd on the
market right now.

X WHAT WE LIKED
Quite refreshing. The coconut
water makes for a good post-run
hydration option, as it seems to cool
down a heated body rather quickly.

X WHAT WE DIDN’T LIKE
Another tester didn’t fancy the
taste, but overall, if you like
coconuts, this is for you. "As a fl uid,
it can hydrate adequately, but its sodium
levels are too low," says Jaclyn. "It
won't be able to replenish your
salts and electrolytes well."
