BALINESE BREEZE
Seminyak has long lured visitors to Bali,
but nearby Canggu is emerging as a hip
new locale. One reason is The Slow, a
recent arrival from Australian designer
George Gorrow, which combines sleek
lodgings, gallery spaces and an all-day
cafe. Chef Shannon Moran serves chia
bowls (left) for breakfast, chickpea fritters
and seafood ceviche for lunch, and squid
ink noodles for dinner. Fittingly, The Slow

as the Tim Burton of bar design. The Bangkok-based
wunderkind, originally from Fremantle in Western
Australia, has hatched a series of magical,
multi-layered lounges in his adopted city, as well
as Tokyo and Hong Kong. What unites these
disparate venues is a penchant for industrial
fittings, secret passageways, vintage Chinoiserie
and gravity-defying elements, including vials of ‘fairy
dust’ suspended from the ceiling. Next up is a fourth
branch of Iron Fairies in Malaysia, a speakeasy in
