As per the latest ‘Quacquarelli Symonds (QC) World
University Rankings’, Indian Institute of Technology,
Delhi has been ranked highest among other three
Indian Universities. As per the ranking, IIT-Bombay
has jumped from 219 rank last year to 179 this time. On
the other hand, IIT-Delhi has replaced IISc as the top
ranked Indian institution.
IIT-Delhi has jumped from 185 rank last year to 172
this time. IISc is down by over 30 places from 152 to

200 universities globally.
But the IISc is rated the sixth best institution across
the globe in QS’s ‘citations per faculty’ metric.
Other Indian institutes in the list of top 959 top
universities are Jadavpur University (ranked in the
601-650 band), University of Hyderabad (601-650),
Anna University (651-700), Manipal University (701-
750), Aligarh Muslim University (800-1000) and Birla
Institute of Technology and Science (800-1000).
Delhi University has entered the top 500 group. It
has moved up from the 501-550 category to the 481-
490 category. IIT-Kharagpur has also improved its
ranking from 313 to 308, and IIT-Kanpur surged from
302 to 293 rank. However, IIT-Madras has lost a few
places ato slip from 249 to 264 rank. IIT-Guwahati
moved from 481-490 band.
Lucknow University, in collaboration with
India Health Action Trust (IHAT), will study
the vulnerability and the risk factors for severe
pneumonia and diarrhoea among children under
five years of age in Uttar Pradesh. The two diseases
cause many deaths among children under five.
For this, LU has signed a Memorandum of
Understanding with IHAT. Together, they will
conduct a study in three or four districts of UP. The
purpose is to collaborate with LU’s department of
anthropology as an academic and research resource
institution for supporting the development and
implementation of the child health program
vulnerability study in UP.
The study will explore health providers’ and
households’ knowledge and perception of risk
factors for severe pnemonia and diarrhoea in
children under five years of age and understand the
strategies in identifying and prioritizing vulnerable
children. The project is funded by Bill and Melinda
Gates Foundation.
