G+D Mobile Security, Murata and STMicroelectronics
join hands for IoT solutions
G+D Mobile Security, Murata and STMicroelectronics have
teamed up to integrate cost-effective security features into IoT
devices. Available now for a wide range of applications and
vertical markets, the joint solution aims to ensure integrity and
confidentiality of the data exchanged and allow distribution of
LPWAN keys in a fully secure manner.


ESG, Diehl Defence and Rohde & Schwarz cooperate
for protection against drones
Drones pose a serious security risk at major public events and
also to high-risk infrastructure and facilities such as airports,
industrial test sites and military sites. With this in mind, ESG
Elektroniksystem und Logistik-GmbH, Diehl Defence and
Rohde & Schwarz plan to coordinate their efforts and provide
fully customised, bundled solutions based on their proven
expertise in the fields of radar, radio monitoring, electromagnetic
countermeasures, command and control information systems,
and position mapping.


Adani Group commissions 50MW solar plant in UP
Adani Group, a global integrated infrastructure conglomerate,
has commissioned a 50MW solar PV plant in Mahoba, Uttar
Pradesh, under the National Solar Mission Scheme, with an
investment of ` 3150 million. The plant uses string inverter
technology, which is said to be the first of its kind in UP with
crystalline silicon modules that allows miniature-level control of
solar power generation.


BEL’s report card for 2016-17
Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has registered a turnover
growth of 17 per cent to reach 88,250 million in 2016- 17 over previous year’s 75,410 million. Of this, turnover
from indigenous technology is 87 per cent. The PSU’s other
major accomplishments during the year included induction of
weapon locating radar to army and supply for major projects
like integrated air command and control system, handheld
thermal imager with laser range finder, electronic fuse, low-


level transportable radar and ship-borne electronic warfare
system (Varuna).

Samsung SMT renamed as Hanwha Techwin
Samsung SMT, known as Samsung C&T India, has recently
changed its name to Hanwha Techwin Automation India and its
office location has changed to Aerocity in New Delhi, India.

Intel investing ` 11 billion in India
Intel Corporation is investing ` 11 billion in India to set up
a new R&D centre in Bengaluru. The new R&D facility will
also have a computer software development and hardware
design services facility. The fresh investment is in addition
to $2 billion the chip maker had invested in India till 2016.
The company’s Indian subsidiary houses about 7000
techies to design and power semiconductor chips for its
global customers.

Videocon Telecom eyes ` 16.58-billion revenues
this year
Videocon Telecom plans to generate ` 16.58 billion revenues
in the current financial year 2017-18, from its existing, newly
setup and upcoming business lines. The existing business lines
include broadband and FTTH business in Punjab, Haryana &
Himachal Pradesh; wholesale international long-distance carrier
business; smart solutions; tower business and security and
surveillance. Among the new business lines that the company
is venturing into include retailing of CCTV cameras, smartphone
accessories, smart homes and city solutions, and mobile VAS.
These verticals are expected to add ` 3 billion revenues during
the year.

HP to focus on premium segment, small towns
HP Inc. plans to accelerate its personal computers (PC)
business with focus on the brand’s premium segment and
smaller towns in India. The company will expand its retail
footprint with 1000 HP Exclusive retail stores (HP World), up
from 490 stores now, by December 2018, with focus on tier II,
tier III and tier IV towns.

EX 600 Series, also eyes similar 10
per cent share in this segment.
“Out of 100 TV sets, we are sell-
ing around three 4K sets. Our inten-
tion is to sell around six or seven 4K
sets out of 100,” Panasonic India and
South Asia president and CEO Man-
ish Sharma said. “This means that so
far we are not doing enough in the
4K category,” he added.
The 4K market is 4.5-5 per cent of
the total TV market in terms of value
and 2-2.5 per cent in terms of volume.
The Indian TV market is around 12 mil-
lion sets, growing by over 17 per cent.
