n an enlightening customer story,
Philips on its website shares the ex-
perience of State Bank of India, Agra
Branch, which recently switched to LED
lighting. The bank was looking for a light-
ing solution that would decrease energy
consumption and save costs while also
creating a soothing ambiance. LED lighting
provided the bank with an efficient, long-
lasting, ambient, high-output solution and
consequent energy saving of 50 per cent.
LED lighting solutions come in various
form factors, including bulbs, tubes and
floodlights. Here we talk about LED tubes
only. LED tubes were introduced in the mar-
ket in the early 2000. Currently, the retrofit
LED tubes market can be divided into three
categories—Type A, Type B and Type C. Type
A being the most popular of the lot, here we
discuss their benefits and challenges.

Benefits of Type A LED tubes
Type A LED tubes replace the existing fluo-
rescent tubes, keeping
the ballast and fixture
unchanged. Thus, the
installation cost of LED
tubes is nearly negli-
gible. Other benefits
of Type A retrofit LED
tubes are mentioned
below.

Slash electricity bill by 50 per cent.
Type A LED tubes come with three of the
most sought-after features that reduce
expenses in the long run. These include
high efficiency, long usable lifespan and
less maintenance requirements.
LED tubes significantly cut down the
energy consumption, and thus, your elec-
tricity bill. On an average, genuine-quality
LED tube lights can help users to lower
electricity consumption by 50-80 per cent
compared to CFLs and incandescent.
Unlike the 360-degree emission pattern
of fluorescent tubes, Type A LED tubes
emit light in a single direction, avoiding
unwanted loss of energy. Lower energy
wastage also implies lower power con-
sumption. Therefore LED tubes consume
less power than CFLs and incandescent
light bulbs but deliver brighter output.
The light efficiency of LED tube lights is
represented in lumens per watt.
Type A LED tubes with a genuine-
quality driver can run for more than
50,000 hours in suitable conditions, while
the lifespan of fluorescent or incandescent
tubes is limited to within 10,000 hours.
That means there is no need to frequently
replace or fix damaged tubes.
Easy installation. Type A retrofit LED
tubes don’t require rewiring or recon-
figuration of the setup. Users just need to
