Ienjoyed your recent article ‘UseWord like
apro’(Shopper379), but you didn’t mention
what Ifeel is oneof the most frustrating
aspectsof Word. When copyingamix of
imagesandtextfromawebpage,sometimes
it works, but usually it doesn’t, with the
images just being replacedby blank spaces.
Right-clicking on the spaces revealsaURL
link to asource image,soW ord knows what
theimagesshouldbe,butwon’tinsertthem.
It’s possibleto save images from the
web and insert them individually intoa
document, but this is very time-consuming.
Ihavedelved intoWord’s settings, but
nothing I’ve tried has madeadifference.Isit
not possibleto fo rce Word to insert images

Webpages areoften complex, with hidden
formatting or scripts that can preventasimple
copyand past eoft heir contents.Youdon’t
mention why you wantto pasteweb pages
intoWord, but whether you wantto save or
edit them it’s not the ideal platform. If your
purpose is theformer,we’drecommend you
open Firefox’s menu, choose SavePage As,
then save the page as an HTML file. Then you
can double-click the saved fileto view it in
Firefox. If you wantto edit the page, you can
open the HTML file inaweb editor
such as the freeWebsiteX5Go(www.
websitex5.com). In theory,all the
necessary scripts and images should
have been saved intoasub-folder.
If you have your own reasonsfor
sticking withWord, you’ll get the best
results by saving the HTML web page
as above, then opening the HTML file
from Word’s File ,Open dialog box.
However,you’re still likelyto find that
the formatting is incompleteand that
some images are missing. Whatever
your reasons, remember the HTML
and other elementsof awebsiteare
likely to be subjectto copyright, so
you shouldn’t reuse significant
portionsforyour own projects.

Iuse aGoogle Mail accountformy
personal email.Formost purposes
Iuse the @gmail.com address
associated with it, butfamily and
some old friends still use an email
address thatIset up onadomain
Iown. My son helped me
configure Google Mail so that it
could receive mails sentto this
address, and we added it as an
alias on my Google account so
that Icould also send from it.
It’s been working fineforafew
years, then suddenly it stopped
working.Ican receive emails, but when I
send, itfails withadelivery status
notificationtelling me my settings are
misconfigured or outof date(Ih aven’t
changed any settings).Ithought the
problem was intermittent until it dawned
on me thatIsimply don’t send with that
alias veryoften. My son’s travelling; can
you help me work out the problem?

When we looked intothe issue, ite merged
that Sk yisy our ISP ,and you’ve configured

Bouncingemails

Google Mailto use Sky’s secure mail
transfer protocol (SMTP) serverto send
mails from the problem email address.
This summer,anumber of Skyaccounts
were accessed in an attack. Although yours
wasn’t oneof them, the company reset its
users’ passwords asaprecaution. When this
happened, Google could no longer access
Sky’s serverto send mail on your behalf.
The fix isto open Settings in Google Mail,
navigat etot he Accounts and Import page,
then edit the settingsforyour alias and
updatethe password.

Since updatingto Version 1903of Windows
10 Pro ,myL ock Screen picture is outof
focus when the computer starts. This
happens whether theLock Screen content
is set to Windows Spotlight or Picture.I
used to enjoyseeing thevarious landscapes,
but now they’re all fuzzy.Ist here areason
forthis, and any waytop revent it?

We’re not sure why Microsoftmade the
change,but there are several solutionsof
varying complexity.The easiest is notto log in;
after about 30 seconds the prompt will
disappear infavour of Windows Spotlight
information, and the picture will come into
focus. The next easiest option isto open
Settings using the gearwheel icon on theStart
menu, goto the Personalisation section, select
Colours, then switchoff Transparencyeffects.
Unfortunately,this affects all the aspectsof
the Windows interface where transparency is
used, which probably isn’t what you want.

There are two methodsto achieve what
you want. As you have Windows 10 Pro,the
easiest option isto use the GroupPolicy
Editor ,which is easier than the alternativeof
manually creatingaRegistry key. Open the
Start menu, typegpeditand run Edit Group
Policy from the results. Under the Computer
Configuration heading, expandAdministrative
Templates, thenSystem, then selectLogon.
In the right-hand pane,double-click Show
clear logon background, then in the dialog
that opens, select Enabled and click OK. Now
close the GroupPolicy Editor, and the next
time you lock or restart your PC you should
find that the background picture is crisp.
