HOW TO

STAY BETTER

HYDRATED

Fit-girl hacks

HO. WE ALL KNOW WE SHOULD BE
drinking about eight glasses of the good stu
every day (or even more if we’re working out), but
sometimes the struggle to drink enough is totally
real. Given our bodies are about 60 per cent water,
not getting a suΠcient amount of aqua can lead to
dehydration, which in turn a ects the body’s ability
to function properly. According to the experts,
even mild dehydration (a 1.5 per cent water loss)
can negatively impact your mood, energy levels
and cognitive function. So, we’ve found a fool-
proof way to make sure you get all the water you
need – with this handy DIY drink bottle...
STEP Grab a 1-litre water bottle, and with a
permanent marker draw lines on your bottle at
200ml increments (use a measuring cup to do this).
STEP Starting at the top, label each 200ml line
with the time in one-hour intervals – the morning
times (from 8am to noon) on one side and the
afternoon times (from 2pm to 6pm) on the other.
STEP Keep your bottle within easy reach, like on
your desk or in the cup holder of your car. Every 60
minutes, drink at least 200ml, so that each hour the
water level is at the time marked on the bottle. I.e.,
at 11am the water should be at the 11am mark.

STEP When your bottle is empty at noon, refi ll
it and continue drinking. By dinnertime, you should
have consumed your eight glasses for the day.
Boom. Happy hydrating!

The exact amount you should drink varies
depending on factors such as your activity
level, environment and health status.
