MILAN
DOLCE &
GABBANA
More than 140 people—
not models—of different
shapes, sizes, ethnicities
and ages walked the
runway for the Italian
house dressed in clothes
they had picked out and
accessorised themselves.
Call it a fashion flashback.
The Italian duo’s first show
in the mid-1980s featured
not models, but people.
Familiar D&G motifs such as
golden crowns, exuberant
patterns, extravagant
embellishments (especially on
jeans), velvet and brocade,
and, of course, leopard-
print anything were out in
full force. Cheeky pieces
such as T-shirts printed
with “D&G loves Justin
Bieber” aside, what stole the
show were the handcrafted
designs, such as a baby blue
fur coat embellished with
ostrich feathers, a glittering
silver frock with statement
sleeves, and a silk dress with
spaceman screen prints.
