No expense spared on top-class facilities

AIMING HIGH: Queen Ethelburga’s offers a world class
education at its extensive facilities set on a 220-acre
North Yorkshire estate.

Queen Ethelburga’s

With its best academic results to date, a
ranking in the top ten schools in the UK, a
record number of leavers going to the most
prestigious universities, including Oxbridge, and
luxurious boarding and school facilities, you
can see why Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate in
the North of England has plenty of reasons to
celebrate.

In a report by the UK’s Independent Schools
Inspectorate, Queen Ethelburga’s students
were assessed to be “highly confident,
articulate and mature young people, eager to
learn, with highly developed spiritual, moral,
social skills and exceptional cultural
understanding.”

In its 2016 academic results, Queen Ethelburga’s
College recorded a 100% pass rate. 98% of its
A-Level grades were A* to B. More than 95% of
its Sixth Formers went on to university or
college, the majority attending Russell or the
former 1994 Group, City or Oxbridge universities.

The prestigious UK broadsheet newspaper, The
Sunday Times, has ranked QE College at sixth in
its ranking of more than 190 independent
boarding schools in the United Kingdom, based
on the percentage of A*/A grades.

Set in more than 220 acres of beautiful North
Yorkshire countryside, Queen Ethelburga’s
Collegiate comprises of four schools: Chapter
House, King’s Magna, the College and the
Faculty.

The Preparatory School, Chapter House, offers
the youngest members of the Collegiate a wide
and exciting curriculum, including not just the
basics of literacy and numeracy, but languages,
music, drama, science and sport.

Moving on to the Middle School, King’s Magna,
the curriculum broadens even more, with

students gaining confidence through
independent learning and additional
responsibilities afforded them with age.
The College offers older students a more
traditional academic focused route through the
school. This year students have received offers
from universities like Oxford, Cambridge,
University College London and Imperial College.
Students in the Faculty follow a varied and
bespoke programme of learning, allowing them
to combine A-Levels with more creative BTEC
subjects. 89% of all BTECs taken at QE last year
gained Distinction or Distinction * grades.
But if the academic side of things sounds
impressive, the facilities for students are
amazing. The boarding bedrooms are some of
the most luxurious in the independent school
sector and the en-suite bedrooms boast
plasma screen televisions with dvd players and
gaming ports, direct dial telephones, air
conditioning and sun blinds.
The sports complex has a swimming pool with
sauna, steam rooms and Jacuzzi. There is a
massive triple-court sports hall which can
accommodate multiple games at the same time.
The new £1 million state-of-the-art fitness suite
has just opened and can take up to 120
students exercising together, and our activities
wing includes a martial arts and boxing suite,
table tennis arena and dance studios.
Approximately £100 million has been invested
into the campus over the few years and with a
new activity complex hosting a go-kart track
and karaoke café, an Olympic Court and
fantastic new boarding for older students, the
investment never stops.
Having recently celebrated its centenary,
Queen Ethelburga’s looks set to enjoy another
one hundred years as an impressive seat of
learning.
