Think ’90s fashion and a broad-shouldered power suit
immediately comes to mind. A trouser suit from Marina Ri
in the February 1997 issue epitomises the borrowed-from-
the-boys look of the decade. Fast-forward to 2017 and C
Klein, with newly appointed chief creative director Raf Sim
at the helm, pays homage to the ’90s, the era when Calv
Klein rose to prominence as a leading American designer

Before she was the host of America’s Next Top
Model, Tyra Banks graced the pages of numerous
big titles, including Hong Kong Tatler’s March 1994
issue. Pictured left, Banks shows off an evening dress
by Christian Dior. The brand’s current artistic director,
Maria Grazia Chiuri, also has a penchant for black and
gold, employing

FW17.

A black dress with a mesh neckline from Gianfranco Ferré,
for our January 1995 issue by the late fashion photograp r

current catwalk. Alexander Wang a

John Galliano may have left Christian Dior for Maison
Margiela, but there’s defi nitely one thing he didn’t leave
behind—his love of nude-toned tulle. These two looks o

Any similarities?

There are staples in fashion that never go out of style. Dizzying
fl oral prints, polka dots and bold animal prints are a few that
immediately come to mind. We spotted Brazilian supermodel
Alessandra Ambrosio in the December 2004 issue wearing a
lace-up leopard dress by Jean-Paul Gaultier. Another designer
with a penchant for leopard is Roberto
Cavalli. While his house has yet to name a
successor for recently departed creative
director Peter Dundas, the brand’s code
remains loud and clear.

We reckon Donatella Versace designs with both Wonder Woman
and the femme fatale in mind. Just look at this outfi t from Atelier
Versace in our November 2010 issue, a dress made of metallic
leathers and rings strung together with chain
fringing. Similar styles can be found in today’s
collections, except made of circular glass beads on
a metallic structure. Daring, defi ant and incredibly
bold—Versace’s not for the ordinary woman.
