58 WHAT TRADIES WANT.
GERBER
Center-Drive
MULTITOOL
I
’m going to come clean with this Tradie
Tough Test right from the start: I’m a
massive fan of the multitool. So is my
Dad. Actually he’s more of a Swiss Army
knife kind of guy. He’s nearly 70 and still
wears his on his belt from time to time.
So I’ve been looking forward to putting the
Center-Drive through its paces.
PLENTY OF SPECIALTY
TOOLS
There’s a great collection of unique features
on this tool and I think it’s only fair to start
with the blade. It’s a beast, 30% longer than
its competitors, coming in at 8.25cm. But
more on that later.
The pliers feature for me on the Center-
Drive is a standout. The single-handed,
sliding opening mechanism – as opposed
to the butterfly-style – is a very cool and
functional method. Something else that
impressed me with Gerber’s approach is
that they haven’t tried to pack every possible
configuration of tools into it. Instead they’ve
gone down the road of focusing on only a
handful of specialty features and another
group of smaller, yet essential, gear.
Let’s dig a bit deeper into the Center-Drive
and see if it lives up to all the hype.
