A Yanomami community in
the Amazon gathers because
someone in the village has
died. Close relatives and
friends parade around the
village to say good-bye and
wish the person well in the
spirit world. Together they
celebrate the life they shared
with their friend and loved one.
Inside an igloo, Inuit in the
Arctic come together to sing
Kayavak. One person makes
a unique throaty sound into a
large pot, which amplifies the
sound. A second person in turn
tries to imitate the sound of the
first. This goes back and forth
faster and faster, until one of
the singers makes a mistake
and they break into laughter.
