On a searing hot day the Fashion
Show shopping mall on the Strip is an
air-conditioned oasis. There’s a Zara,
Topshop and Anthropologie here and
the Sax Fifth Avenue offers a personal
shopper service complete with cham-
pagne and a goody bag. For more
high-end designers, head to Barneys
New York at the Grand Canal Shoppes
and the Shops At Crystals.
TRAWLING FOR VINTAGE
In a city that worships the hot new
thing, Vegas’s vintage boutiques remain
a stalwart of golden-era kitch. Racks
are jam-packed with old-school
American vintage, archival fashion and
throwbacks to the Rat Pack age. Our
pick? Retro Vegas, in the Downtown
arts district, for mid-century relics
plucked from hotel and casino refur-
bishments. The store within a store,
The Red Kat, is a treasure-trove of
vintage eveningwear, classic denim and
cowboy boots. Visit retro-vegas.com.
EATING OUT
Forget the all-you-can-eat buffet,
Vegas is a beacon for celebrity chefs
and cult eateries. Check out Momofuku
at The Cosmopolitan hotel to sample
David Chang’s legendary steamed buns.
Next door, Milk Bar is well worth a visit
for an Instagram famous cookie and
a shake. Le Cirque, overlooking the
Bellagio fountains, is a quintessential
Las Vegas dining experience. At around
$450 per person, the 10-course dinner
is a blowout but the budget can be
rebalanced with the quality fast food
at In-N-Out Burger or Shake Shack
(both on the Strip).
THE SHOWS
Earning its tagline as “the entertain-
ment capital of the world”, Las Vegas
boasts a program of over 100 shows
every night. Resident headliners
include Britney Spears, J.Lo and no less
than six Cirque du Soleil shows. marie
claire enjoyed O by Cirque du Soleil –
an acrobatic spectacular on a sinking
aquatic stage. Visit cirquedusoleil.com.
NATURE TRAIL
Respite from the city’s artifices can be found in the surrounding desert. Red Rock
National Park, famed for its impressive stone formations, is a 40-minute drive from
the Strip. After some of that Vegas showmanship? The Maverick Wind Dancer
helicopter tour flies over the Hoover Dam, lands inside the Grand Canyon for a
champagne picnic and flies back over the city lights. Visit maverickhelicopter.com.
