You’ve had the summer off from
your sitcomUnbreakable
Kimmy Schmidt.Having fun?
I’m very fortunate in the scheduling
of my jobs that I can have some free
time with my son [Bennett]. We’re
gonna head to the beach and do
some camping. He just graduated
kindergarten, so it’s been a very
celebratory house.
Are you nervous for him to start
elementary school?
I think the transition to kindergarten
was more weighty on me than him—
it probably is on most parents, just
because that seems like a big step.
We love his school; now he just goes
in a different door!
You look amazing. What’s your
diet and daily routine?
I eat 95 percent vegetarian because
those are the foods I tend to enjoy
the most. I try to exercise as much as
I can and try and keep up with my
son. There’s a lot of exercise, and a
6-year-old boy has a lot of energy!
Do you feel pressure to look a
certain way in Hollywood?
Maybe it’s because I tend to work
in comedy, but I’ve never felt that
pressure from the business. But
I do stay healthy for myself and
my family.—J.G.

BRAD PAISLEY

NASHVILLE’S

FUNNY GUY

In this week’s issueEntertainment Weeklyoffers a first
look at season 2 of Netflix’s Emmy-nominatedThe
Crown,in which the show reimagines President John F.
Kennedy and Jackie O. (Michael C. Hall, Jodi Balfour)
during their 1961 visit with Queen Elizabeth and Prince
Philip (Claire Foy, Matt Smith) at Buckingham Palace.

You host a new Netflix stand-up special,
Brad Paisley’s Comedy Rodeo(streaming
Aug. 15). What can viewers expect?
It’s got a bit of Nashville tint to it, and it’s way more
along the lines of Jim Gaffigan than Louis C.K. There
are several comedians,I sing different songs, and
Reba McEntire was really nice to film with me.
And David Hasselhoff makes
a cameo too!
We met making my new “Last
Time for Everything” music
video and became friends pretty
quick. He’s the kind of guy who’s
up for anything. If you have an
idea, he’s got a lot of energy, and
he’s ready to go.
What does your wife, Kimberly,
think about your jokes?
The only reason I won her over, I think,
was my sense of humor. But then when it
comes to being onstage, she’s a lot
tougher to make laugh—she doesn’t let
me get away with something that’s half
funny, so she’s a great barometer.
