At the 2009 Golden Globes,

Kate gushed to Leo in her

acceptance speech, saying: ‘Leo,

I’m so happy I can stand here and

tell you how much I love you, and

how I’ve loved you for 13 years.’

So what’s keeping them apart?

Sources tell New Idea that it’s a

question of timing, with Kate

being married or in

relationships since they

met. Leo, 42, meanwhile,

has struggled to find

lasting love.

‘Leo is the ultimate

bachelor, jumping from

one model to the next

and one yacht to the next,’

says a source. ‘But behind

the playboy lifestyle is the

fact he could never have the

woman he wanted – Kate.’

Now insiders tell New Idea

their renewed friendship and

reunion at last week’s Titanic

party is causing tension in Kate’s

marriage to Ned Rocknroll, who

she tied the knot with in 2012.

‘They’ve always been good

friends, but whenever Leo is

single, they seem to talk even

more,’ the source says. ‘And ever

since Leo split with Nina

[Agdal] a few months back,

he’s been blowing up Kate’s

phone at all hours.

‘Ned is well aware that Leo

and Kate go way back, but lately

he’s been getting annoyed at

their friendship. She confides in

Leo more than she does Ned

about anything movie-related,

which Ned hates. While he

knows they are just friends, he

thinks it’s embarrassing and

inappropriate to have constant

questions involving Leo hanging

over their marriage.

‘He’s asked her to tone down

the friendship, which she argues is

impossible given that it’s Titanic’s

20-year anniversary and they

should be allowed to enjoy their

success. She thinks Ned is being

ridiculous and can’t understand

why he’s all of a sudden developed

such a bee in his bonnet. It’s

causing real strain for them at

the moment.’

Leo has been lonely since

splitting with Nina (above)

and is leaning on Kate for

support – but pals reveal
