recognise me,’ she smiles. ‘It feels
amazing. I am more confident,
I can play with my kids and I’m
not embarrassed to take them
to the park anymore.’
Rose-anna is convinced it was
boredom that saw her weight
spiral out of control. At age 25,
the young mum was already
tipping the scales at 155kg.
‘I sat on the couch all day and
thought about food,’ says Rose-
anna, now 27. ‘And when I had
my main meals, I loaded up my
plate with big portions. I think
I always failed on diets because
I would cut out all unhealthy
food and live on rabbit food.’
And while she admits
her weight often caused her
embarrassment, Rose-anna just
couldn’t find a healthy regime
that she could see through.
‘I went tubing with friends
and I fell off in the middle of the
water,’ she recalls. ‘It was awful,
because no matter how hard
I tried, I couldn’t get back on the
tube or even into the boat. That
was probably my lowest point.
I tried to diet again, but I would
starve myself and just end up
miserable and eating even more.’
It wasn’t until she moved from
Emerald, Qld, to Newcastle,
NSW, in 2015 that the weight
suddenly started to drop off.
‘I finally had something to do,
exploring my new city,’ she says.
‘It meant I wasn’t eating out of
boredom anymore, I was actually
eating when I was hungry. I never
changed what I was eating, I just
changed how I was eating.’
These days, weighing 80kg,
she often snacks up to 10 times
a day and says her meal choices
haven’t changed at all.
‘I nibble all the time, but
the difference is I stop when I’m
full. I don’t tell myself I can’t
have things or cut out certain
foods, I don’t have to get up to
go to the gym or miss out on
special dinners.’
With new-found confidence,
the mum-of-one believes her
years of binge eating are well in
the past. ‘This is my life now, so
there is nothing to change,’ she
smiles. ‘And I love the new me.’

IT’S A WEIGHT-

O
verweight and
unhappy, Rose-anna
Frickmann tried
every diet she came
across, but after
years of giving up and binge
eating, she was often left
heavier than before.
Believing she was destined to
remain a size 24, the young mum
ditched the strict calorie control,
ate whenever she wanted – and
was shocked to find she could fit
into a size 12 after shedding an
amazing 75kg in a year!
