LILLY PERROTT:
‘I WAS PUNCHED IN
THE FACE FOR
CALLING OUT A MAN
WHO GROPED ME’
A day out with her
boyfriend turned into
a nightmare for Lilly
‘At Newtown Festival last
year, a man stuck his hand up
my dress and groped my arse
while my boyfriend had his arm
around me. I turned around
and yelled at him for his foul
behaviour and he punched me
in the face. He fractured my
nose and eye socket in two
places and put me in hospital.
After two days in court with
five witnesses on my side, we
got the asshole who assaulted
me to take responsibility for
his actions – he was charged
with aggressive assault with
malicious intent. I was fortunate
to receive legal aid and
emotional support from police,
friends and family. But there
are so many women who deal
with violence or sexual assault
only to have their cases
dismissed or forgotten about,
or who cannot get access to
the legal aid they require.
I feel that the majority of these
cases could be prevented if
we, as a society, worked on
educating people of all ages
and sexes on how to respect
a fellow human being.’

‘EMOTIONAL ABUSE IS JUST AS DAMAGING AS PHYSICAL VIOLENCE, BUT MOST WOMEN DON’T

EVEN KNOW IT’S HAPPENING UNTIL IT’S TOO LATE. KNOW THE SIGNS; EDUCATE YOURSELVES,

YOUR SISTERS, YOUR FRIENDS ON THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ABUSE.’ – Sam Frost, media personality
