The human brain has so many links between
cells, they cannot possibly be displayed in one
image. Yet two scientists have given it a try. Titled,
like a piece of art, as “Self Reflected”, this 2.5 x 3.
metre steel plate etching shows the links between
brain cells as microscopic grooves. The tiniest change
in viewer's perspective will make the grooves reflect
light from specific angles, and under a spotlight, the
nerve links take turns to appear, giving a sense of
how signals travel through the brain.
