COTTAGE COLOUR
If you love pink in your garden, get to
know summer phlox (Phlox paniculata).
Traditionally a long-stemmed flower, it’s available
in more compact forms these days, which are
perfect for pot displays. Plant up a whole tub
of it, in one of its many shades of pink, and
enjoy the parade of blooms all season long. ■

STARRY CHARM
Clusters of
simple star-like
flowers smother Pentas
lanceolata throughout the
warmer months. Compact
and shrubby, it makes a
nice container plant and
blooms in both full sun
and partly shaded spots.
The colour range includes
pink, red, lilac and white.

HEAVEN SCENT
Is there any
perfume more
intoxicating in a summer
garden than gardenias?
These compact shrubs
will grow just as happily
in pots as in the ground,
and that means you can
enjoy one right beside
your patio doors. But
why plant just one?

There’s no
such thing as too
many flowers
in a garden –
so fill up every
container you
can find!
