Bill Gates, others, inject $17 Million
into Slaughter-Free Lab Meat Start-Up
The San-Francisco-based lab grown meat
start-up we reported on last issue is on a roll.
Memphis Meats’ CEO and Co-founder, Uma
Valeti, has caught the eye of some of the
world’s richest people including the likes of Bill
Gates and Richard Branson.
Raising $17 million, the massive financial
injection, not to mention the names behind
it, will allow Memphis Meats to compete with
other start-ups, like Hampton Creek, Impossible
Foods, and Mosa Meat. The company expects
to have its products available within the next
five to six years.
Australia’s Largest
Dairy Company Cuts
Production as People
Reduce Milk Intake
Australia’s largest dairy supplier – Murray
Goulburn, is closing three of its processing
facilities and cutting product lines to recoup
its $370.8 million loss. The 22% loss, it
says, is attributable to consumers’ milk
intake dropping by 2.7 billion in the 2016-
17 financial year.
The news comes despite consumers
boycotting unnamed milk in order to
support Australian farmers. The company
has discontinued its infant formula line,
and say that the coming months would be
pivotal for the future of the business.
