WORKING PATTERN
Using 4.00mm needles and MC, cast
on 96 stitches loosely.
Row 1: K1, *P1, K1, repeat from * to
end.
Row 2: P1, *K1, P1, repeat from *to
end.
These 2 rows form rib pattern.
Repeat rib pattern once more (4 rows
in all).

Change to CC and work 4 rows
pattern.
Change to MC and work 4 rows
pattern.
Change to CC and work 4 rows
pattern.
Change to MC and continue in pattern
until work measures 22cm from
beginning.

Shape crown:
Row 1: K2tog to end of row.
Row 2: P2tog to end of row.
Row 3: K2tog to end of row.
Row 4: P2tog to end of row.

Break off yarn and thread through
remaining stitches. Draw up and fasten
off securely.

MAKING UP
Use back stitch to join seam, reversing
seam for width of fold-up band.

WORKING PATTERN
MITTENS
Using 3.25mm needles and CC cast
on 36 stitches.
Work 4 rows K1, P1 rib as for hat.
Change to MC and work 4 rows rib.
Then using CC work a further 4 rows
rib (12 rows rib in all).

Change to 4.00mm needles and MC
and work in stocking stitch until work
measures 12.5cm from beginning,
ending with a purl row.

Row 1: K2tog to end of row
Row 2: P2tog to end of row
Row 3: K2tog to end of row

MAKING UP
Break off yarn and thread through
remaining stitches.
Fasten securely.

With right sides together sew side
seam and neaten loose ends.
