ENGINE: Paul wanted everything as neat as possible, but
due to being under the pump with his Summernats 30
deadline, didn’t have time to invest in planning far beyond
that. Needless to say, it came together rather nicely.
“I bought the billet strut braces from Bullet in Camden
because I had deleted the originals, and I picked up the
valve covers and air cleaner off the shelf at Rocket. I put it
all together a week or two before Summernats”
EXTERIOR: Paul’s XM nails the basics – a great stance
combined with timeless wheels and an outstanding
colour – and the results speak for themselves. But his
next project will be nowhere near as shiny. “I’ve got
another XM that I picked up from Dubbo; it was found
under a tree in Brewarrina by a shearer,” he says. “I’m
contemplating creating a rat rod with an XR6 Turbo
conversion out of it. Watch this space!”

BOOT: The custom fuel cell was
built by Lyle Patterson, and it’s
done in such a way that Paul
can throw the pram in and go
- there’s still a fair bit of room.
It’s practical, neat and tidy.
“The kids love cruising in the
car; it sends them to sleep!”
