S
upercars takes in new horizons when Newcastle joins the
schedule to host the season finale this November.
The move from Sydney to Newcastle has the backing of Des-
tination NSW, the lead government agency for the New South
Wales tourism and major events sectors, switching from the
ambivalent capital to the second biggest town in the state with the aim of
driving significant visitation and economic benefit to Newcastle.
The new circuit takes in Nobbys Beach, Fort Scratchley and the Harbour
Foreshore, racing into the city centre and a parklands section.
Supercars worked closely with the Newcastle City Council on the layout
and to minimise disruptions, with Mark Skaife leading the track design
and Supercars drivers providing their input in the initial design stages.
The Virgin Australia Supercars Championship has found a new
home for its season finale in New South Wales’ second biggest town,
Newcastle. And the new street circuit along the coastline promises to
be one of the most spectacular events on the Supercars schedule.
