There are two very important things that I have learnt about writing a book such as
this: one is how often you need to ask for help and advice from other people; and two
is how incredibly helpful and generous people can be.
So my thanks go out to everyone who has helped me in this venture, most nota-
bly, in alphabetical order: Neil Andrews, Julie Bedford BSc(Hons) PGCE PGDipCABC
CCAB, Dr. Sarah Ellis BSc(Hons) PGDipCABC PhD, Celia Haddon MA BSc MSc,
Jackie Hart, Stephanie Hedges BSc (Hons) CCAB, Penny Stephens, Caroline Warnes
BVSc MSc CCAB MRCVS and Clare Wilson MA VetMB CCAB MRCVS PGDipCABC.
Thank you also to the wonderful team at CABI, and everyone else (especially the
Penguins) who have pointed me in the right direction to find a research paper, helped
me when I couldn’t think of a word or phrase a sentence, or just offered their thoughts
and opinions.
Finally, much love and thanks my husband Alan, who has been, almost without
complaint, a book-writing widower over the last 2 years but who has used the time
constructively by honing his housework, cooking and ironing skills. And to Tui for
offering constant companionship while I’ve been writing, and a fair bit of cat hair in
my computer keyboard.
