ecently,I wasinvitedtoa dealerTrainingDayin Waikato

fora first-handlookatthelatestrangeofspreadersfrom

DanishmanufacturerBogballe.

HostedbyOriginAg,theNewZealanddistributorofBogballe

(Bogballespreadersaredistributedin AustraliabyTechgrow),

anaddedbonuswastheopportunitytomeetandchatwithNils

Laursen,managingdirectorofBogballe,whowasenjoyinghis

recentvisittoNewZealandfromDenmark.

Havinghimonhandtorunthroughthefeaturesofthe

spreadersdesignedandbuiltin hisfamily-ownedfactorywasa

uniqueopportunitytodiscussdetailswithsomeonewhoknows

everyinchofthesemachines,aswellasthewhysandhows

behindeverydesignfeature.

BACKGROUND

WhileI havealwaysassociatedBogballewithfertiliserspreaders,

followingNils’visitI alsolearnedthatBogballeis actuallya town

in southernDenmark.Asthenamesuggests,thisis wherethe

companywasfounded,buildingitsfirstsmallsinglediscfertiliser

spreadersbackin 1934.

Whiletherangehasexpandedsignificantlysincethen,along

withthesizeandcapabilitiesofthemanufacturingpremises,

thecompanystillremainsfamily-ownedwiththesame

determinationtodesignandmanufacturetop-qualityspreaders.

TheBogballefactorynowcoversmorethan20,000square

metres,and 96 percentofthemachinesbuiltareexportedto

morethan 90 countriesworldwide.

HOPPER

AllBogballemachinesarebuiltarounda modulardesign.Witha

baseframethatcantakedifferentwidthhoppers,extensionsare

easilyaddedtothetoptoincreasecarryingcapacity.TheM-Line

rangethatwelookedathascapacitiesrangingfrom1,250litres

tothelargestmodelwherecapacitysitsata whopping6,000

litres(dependingonthehopperspecified).

Thehoppersaredesignedtomaximisethecarryingcapacity

whilestillfeedingmaterialevenlytothetwospinners.Insidethe

hopper,a gratepreventsanylumpsgettingtothebottom.This

is hinged,sois easilyopenedif youneedtogetin there.A sight

glassatthefrontgivestheoperatora clearviewofhowmuchis

leftanda scaleontheinsideproveshandywhenloading.
