THE CANADIAN
CONNECTION
So, with the Canadian
connection I had my choice
quickly decided. On the plus
side, I’ve really been wanting
to build something in a desert
scheme this year. I found a
fantastic website that explained
the ‘Earth Quakers’, the RCAFs
involvement and the oddest
part, a pink camoulage
scheme. I was sent a set of
metal parts from Scale Aircraft
Conversions (#72156). This
set included metal landing
gear braces, as well as a
replacement loor to help
act as nose weight. The irst
job was to prime the plastic,
and here I used Army Painter
‘Brush on Primer’ followed,
by a layer of Tamiya XF-
Cockpit Green. I decided to
have the bomb bay closed, but
aft of the bomb bay bulk head
needed to be painted. There are
also sections of the fuselage
missing. These sections house
the round windows which
are clear parts. The rest of
the fuselage is a matt frosted
area, so it will easily blend in
with the surrounding exterior.
Masking of the windows was
an easy task with the circular
template that I had. I cut out
circles for the interior and
exterior, and then primed the
inside. Once the clear panels
were added to the fuselage,
I found that they blended in
perfectly with the rest of the
model. I painted all the various
interior details as best as I
could but inding colour interior
information on the C and D
variants was more diicult
to come by. Still, I found that
the interior was missing
something, so I added some
seat belts made from aluminum
tape cut into thin strips.
One error I discovered with
the kit is, Airix instructs
that ‘Desert Warrior’ does not
have the side nose mounted
machine gun. The one proile
picture that I was able to ind
of the aircraft clearly has the
gun mounted. Also missing
from the kit, written on the
nacelles are the words ‘Earth
Quakers’ in an arch. Before I
closed the fuselage, I added
more lead weight into the
nose in the closed forward
gear bay. Everything in the
interior itted perfectly
