Scale Aviation Modeller International – April 2019

(Romina) #1

Lets get started

H

ypersonic are working on an all
new 1/48 scale injection moulded
kit of the SR-71 Blackbird. But
irst they wanted there irst injection
moulded plastic kit to be something
a bit smaller. So they have chosen the
Blackbirds starter cart which will also
feature etched brass for some of the
detail parts as well as the intake grills.
Optional parts will allow the production
of both the Early Buick Naiheand or late
Chevy produced example. Let’s hope
the Blackbird is not too far behind.

T

he new Kittyhawk 1/35 scale
SH-60F Ocean Hawk is
well along in development
and they have certainly picked
some colourful schemes.
The Ocean Hawk was the anti-
submarine protection of the US
Carrier leet so on deployment their will always
be a few on-board and has now been replaced
by a multi-role version of the Seahawk. Each
squadron normally has
one aircraft marked in
a special scheme and
we have three stunning
examples my favourite
being the example from
HSL-43 “Battle Cats” with
it’s Tiger striped tail. A bit
more plain is a gill grey and

white development aircraft and an overall grey
Spanish example with the national lag on the
fuselage sides and a FLIR turret added to the nose.

Living in a Golden Age

T

o many readers the late 1960s was
the pinnacle of box art design but
with manufacturers like Eduard and
Airix producing some stunning examples
in the last few years, but I beg to difer.
This month Airix have provided us with
examples of box art that will appear on
some of their next 1/72 scale releases.
These will certainly help the kits stand
out on the model shop shelves and I am sure
we will have many more to come over the rest of 2019.
Long may the Golden Age continue!
