TELWATER SELLS MAJOR SHAREHOLDING OFFSHORE

Australian manufacturer Telwater have
announced a definitive agreement to sell 80 per
cent of the company to Canadian recreational
giant BRP, the corporation behind names as Ski-
Doo and Sea-Doo. Previous owner and managing
director Paul Phelan will retain a 20 per cent
holding, and will remain a figurehead and key
decision maker within the brand.
Telwater's Coomera factory, which employs
around 270 employees, is set to continue business
as usual. BRP will be able to leverage its existing
brands such as Alumacraft, Manitou and
Evinrude off the competitive advantage Telwater
have gleaned from their Quintrex, Stacer, Savage
and Yellowfin labels. Telwater's stretch forming
and manufacturing capabilities will likely also be
utilised to the advantage of BRP.
Phalen echos BRP's vision, saying “as a part
of the BRP Marine Group, Telwater boat brands
will learn from BRP’s innovation and be able to
further expand internationally.”

SCIBS 2019 Finishes Strong

This year’s Sanctuary Cove International Boat
Show has been heralded as one of the best in
the event’s 31 year history.
Industry heavyweight Greg Haines,
who hasn’t missed a SCIBS since day one,
attended this year’s event with three new
models that included the Asia-Pacific launch
of the Princess Yachts V65. He concluded the
latest successful event by saying “it’s the best
boat show I can remember.”
Brands such as Palm Beach Motor Yachts,
Maritimo and Riviera reported success with
a number of multi-million dollar orders, as
well as plenty of fresh interest that’s likely to
convert to sales over time.
Strong sales were also reported from a
number or RIB, tender and recreational boat
brands, as well as engine, accessory and
electronics suppliers.
The four-day-long show was blessed with
exceptional weather, which no doubt helped
attendance grow three per cent on last year,
with a total crowd of 47,243 people.
However, with 182 boats on the water and
423 on land, this year’s increased offering and
a wider spectrum of boats was the primary
reason for such impressive figures.
See page 18 for a full recap of SCIBS 2019.

Telwater has a network of 230 dealerships
around the world, exports more than 8,000 boats
and 5,000 trailers annually to over 20 countries.
BRP currently employ over 12,000 people

worldwide, and have dominant market share in a
number of categories, namely personal watercraft
(See-Doo, 54 per cent) and snowmobiles (Ski-
Doo, 50 per cent).
