As a working boatyard rich in heritage and vital to the
functioning of the docks, Underfall Yard is at the heart
of Bristol Harbour. We are proud to offer a range of
boat building, boat maintenance and training services
to mariners from the UK and beyond.
The Yard’s accessible and well-connected location has
seen it emerge as a hub for excellence in traditional and
modern boatbuilding and maintenance. Built-up over
many years, the knowledge, skills and experience of the
Yard’s businesses have made it a maritime focal point
in the South West and our workshops house award-
winning shipwrights, riggers, blacksmiths, welders,
carpenters and fibre composite specialists. Areas of
expertise include plumbing, electrics, fabrication and
the repair of all hull and engine types.
Overseen by the Underfall Yard Trust and operated by
a team of experienced and highly skilled technicians,
the Patent Slipway at the heart of this historic and
picturesque yard can accommodate vessels with
dimensions of 32m x 8m LOA and weights up to 150
tonnes. Boats can be lifted out of the water for quick
inspections and routine work or for major repairs and
alterations. Multihulls can be lifted out fully rigged and
narrowboats can be accommodated individually or in
pairs. Services including water, electricity and pressure
washers are available for use.
Several Yard businesses provide on-shore training and
maritime experiences such as skin-on-frame kayak-
building, the delivery RYA modules and training in first
aid and boat safety. The Underfall Yard Trust leads
bookable group tours which explore the Yard’s unique
maritime heritage, and we are pleased to host a range
of events from birthdays to wedding receptions in a
beautiful and evocative maritime setting.
