CONTRIBUTORS

Raphaël
Montigneaux

Raphaël has had a passion
for yachts since childhood.
He has followed the superyacht
community’s trends and data
for more than 30 years, and in
this issue he reveals the global
sales figures for the first
quarter of 2019 (page 18).
What is your view on
Q1’s sales performance?
After two record years, the
brokerage market has started
slowly in 2019. It could be
explained by the strong activity
on the new construction side
What’s your number-one
industry prediction for 2019?
New orders are high this year
again, and we can expect another
strong Global Order Book
report next September
What new superyachts are you
looking forward to this year?
I am really excited about the
262ft Artefact at Nobiskrug and
the 246ft Feadship 818. Both
have really impressive designs

Simon Ward

Simon joined BOAT International
as production editor in 2018 after
six years at the UK edition of
Wired magazine. To get him up to
speed on the superyacht lifestyle,
he was dispatched to Hôtel
Casadelmar in Corsica to sample
its Espa spa and Michelin-starred
restaurant (page 125).
What was your favorite
part of the Corsica trip?
Just tuning in to its relaxed pace
of life. Sitting in Casadelmar’s
herb-scented gardens with a
sundowner after a spa afternoon
is the definition of relaxation
Tell us about a great place
you’ve been to by the water
Mirissa on Sri Lanka’s south
coast has everything: friendly
people, gorgeous food and
astounding wildlife. We spotted
blue whales, dolphin pods and
green turtles hatching on the
beach, all in the same afternoon
Any other trips planned?
We’re plotting a family road trip
through France. On the agenda
is mountain biking and plenty of
restorative wine and cheese

Mark Luscombe-
Whyte

Mark’s work has appeared in
AD Russia, Condé Nast Traveller
and Vogue Arabia. A freelance
photographer based in London
and the South of France, he shot
Sabrina and Espen Øino’s home
near Monaco (page 104).
What’s the first thing you do
when you arrive on location?
Check the sun and see where it
is going to move during the day
What was your favorite element
of Sabrina and Espen’s home?
The view. It is breathtaking
What’s the most spectacular
place you have ever shot?
Probably the Sheikh Zayed
Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi
Name three people with a
great eye for stylish interiors
Christopher Hall, a New Zealand-
born designer living in London
who works in the Middle East;
Tony Collett, of Collett-Zarzycki,
who works globally; and Guy
Oliver, of Oliver Laws. I love
his marine work

Sophia Wilson

As BOAT International’s travel and
property editor, Sophia spends
a large amount of time on the
road (or in the air) seeking out
the latest inspiring superyacht
destinations to visit. This month
she flew to the middle of
the Pacific Ocean to check out
the paradisiacal islands of
Tahiti (page 126).
What makes Tahiti special?
The islands really are heaven on
Earth – natural beauty, incredible
marine life and French produce
What was the highlight for you?
Snorkeling with sharks outside
the reef off Mo’orea. It helped
me overcome a lifelong fear
Do you have any advice for
first-time visitors?
Allow yourself plenty of time.
There are more than 110 islands
spread across a cruising area
the size of the Mediterranean
What should visitors pack?
A rash vest, as you will likely spend
a lot of your time in the turquoise
water – and loose-fitting clothing
because the French food and
wine are hard to resist!
