TOOL BASICS
Most tools ofer customizable settings that help you get the
most out of them. Here’s where to fnd the essentials...

THE TOOLBAR
The Photoshop toolbar
houses all the tools on ofer.
Click and hold over each tool
to access its tool family, then
choose from the list. Double-
click the top of the panel to
switch between a single- or
double-column view.

THE OPTIONS BAR
Each tool has its own
context-sensitive options bar
that appears at the top of the
display once the tool has been
selected. Here, for example,
the Brush tool reveals an
array of settings, from opacity
controls to blending modes.

CUSTOMIZE TOOLS
This icon lets you see
the Customize Toolbar dialog
box. Here you can drag the
tools that you don’t use very
often or at all to the Extras list,
which means they’re hidden
from the normal view and are
only accessible via the icon,
cleaning up your interface.

THE PRESET PICKER
The Tool preset picker
icon sits in the top-left corner.
Save favorite tool settings as
presets here for quick access.
Find more options under Edit
Presets > Preset Manager.

TOGGLE PANELS
Many tools work in
tandem with Photoshop
panels, in which case a panel
icon is displayed in the options
bar. Click the icon to toggle the
relevant panel on or of.
