Graham set about the task of
replacing bad with good himself.
Wise words came from a pal, Arab,
who suggested he tackled a section
at a time, gaining the satisfaction
of seeing one bit completed before
attempting another, rather than
experience the soullessness of a Bus
stripped almost to nothing.
Inevitably problems arose, such
as the unavailability of early Bay
front panels. Graham’s solution was
to fit a late front, which he cut and
welded under the headlamp bowls
to retain the look he wanted to
achieve. Later, as the metalwork on
the new later panel was raised as a
bed for fixing the small VW roundel,
he had to fill the surrounding areas
to achieve the smooth look of a
crossover model and earlier. The
sliding door was cut and welded
satisfactorily, but although Graham
