The racing was extremely close
between Waters, Evans, Barham and a
few others. As well as skill, fitness
has a huge part to play in this format
and it showed in some of the heats.
The final was cut short at six laps
when a competitor went down just
after the finish-line jump. Riders
came around to line up for a possible
restart but the race was declared by
the officials and the placings stayed
as they were when the race was
unfortunately red flagged.
When the dust settled and it was
time to climb up on the podium, it was
Todd Waters who was presented with
the honour of being Mountain Man for
the next 12 months after victory in
two of the heat races plus the final.
Junior Mountain Man, which is
open to riders of 125cc two-stroke
bikes and 250cc four-strokes, saw
some of the country’s best young
riders hit the track for three,
30-minute-plus-one-lap races.
Yamaha rider Levi Rogers took out the
win with a fourth and two first-place
finishes. Second went to Luke
Zielinski with Ryan Alexander
gettingthefinalpodiumspot.
