REARGUARD
GETTING HEATED
TROUBLE
When you are fi tting a new crankshaft, the
crankshaft can be hard to slide into the new main
bearings. If the crankshaft is not seated in the
bearings correctly or you do not have a crankshaft
puller this job can be rather diffi cult.
TRIK
Instead of taking to the crankshaft and cases with a
hammer, gently heat the inner race of the bearings
with a heatgun and grease the crankshaft with some
assembly lube. The inner race will expand so the
crankshaft will drop straight into place without the
need for a hammer.
USE PROTECTION
TROUBLE
Some trailbikes come with a glass headlight, meaning
that if it gets hit with any solid trail trash it could
smash, leaving you with sharp glass hanging out of
your headlight.
TRIK
Take a piece of polycarbonate and cut it into shape.
Then you can either cable tie it, screw it or use
double-sided tape to secure it over your headlight as
a guard.
TAPE IT
TROUBLE
When you are fi tting a carburettor it can be an
irritating job to feed all the overfl ow tubes down the
back of the engine one at a time into the correct spot.
TRIK
Tape the hoses together and then feed them all down
at the same time. The tape will keep them much more
tidy and prevent them from breaking or moving out of
place and melting on any hot engine or exhaust parts.
DROP YOUR GUIDE
TROUBLE
Quite often when you fi t a larger rear sprocket the
chainguide ends up sitting in the wrong position,
either stopping you from sliding the wheel all the
way forward or causing the chain to run in an
awkward position and rub on the guide.
TRIK
Take a die grinder and elongate the mounting holes
in the chainguide. This will allow you to move the
guide into a better position to allow for the bigger
sprocket and prevent the chain from rubbing on the
guide and wearing it out.
