Fear
IT DOESN’T MATTER IF YOU’RE DAKAR
CHAMPION TOBY PRICE OR THE
HUMBLE ADB OFFICE JUNIOR, THE
FEAR OF FAILURE IS REAL
KAWASAKI’S TYLER Bowers
was left fuming after he was
disqualifi ed from Round 9 of
the FIM Monster Energy
Supercross in Arlington, when
he had a run-in with arch
nemesis Justin Barcia.
Bowers t-boned the Yamaha
rider during their heat, and,
the contact meant both riders
were unable to fi nish race.
Barcia then had to go through
the Last Chance Qualifi er while
Bowers wasn’t given the option
instead he was disqualifi ed.
Supposedly, the incident was
retaliation for the pass Barcia
put on Bowers at the fi nal
round of last year’s Monster
Energy Supercross
Championship fi nal in Vegas.
Barcia jammed up the inside
of Bowers on the fi nal turn
and the two riders made
contact. Neither rider crashed
but Bowers was left with a
broken leg, evidence of the
hard impact.
Following his disqualifi cation,
Bowers took to social media to
vent his frustration claiming a
lack of consistency by offi cials.
Bowers believes the AMA is too
lenient with Bam Bam’s
aggressive riding style. Bam
Bam is the Mr Miyagi of
aggressive racing and Bowers
just got schooled.
BOW NOW TO
YOUR SENSEI
FOROUR 2019 500cc
enduro shootout (p42) we
wanted a real-world
appraisal of all fi ve bikes
and to do so we knew we
had to involve you, the
reader. So, we invited two
blokes from the Dual Sport
Motorcycle Riders
Association (DSMRA) to
get their thoughts on which
machine is the best pick for
trailriders. Shaun and Chris
both trailride, although
Chris is the quicker of the
two (sorry Shaun) and they
brought a completely
different perspective to
the shootout.
They even brought a
completely different style.
We dressed them in new
O’Neal riding gear so they
looked the part. However,
neither opted to tuck their
jerseys in, which is a
cardinal sin around ADB
Enduro Editor Geoffrey
Braico.Chrisalso loves a
good wheelie, no matter
how sketchy they may
appear but to his credit, he
didn’t loop out once.
Shaun became nervous
when it was time for his
photo and his fi rst crack at
ADB fame was a log hop.
Braico stood beside barking
reassuring advice like ‘do it
you pussy’ and ‘hurry up
I’ve got ruts to nail’ and
Shaun’s fi rst attempt was
enough to get the photo but
he didn’t nail the landing.
Braico forced him to have
another crack and on his
second attempt Shaun went
over the handlebar again,
this time head fi rst into a
wombat hole. We dragged
him out by his legs and told
him we got the shot. Shaun
was relieved to hear those
words as he and Chris took
off down the trail, jerseys
fl apping in the breeze.
