SPRING LOADED
Hi guys, great mag, I have
been a keen rider and ADB
reader since 1985 and still
love every edition when it
hits the store!
I have always loved the
Tech Tips and some of the
ingenious ideas from the
bike riding fraternity.
One somewhat simple
job that we don’t have to
do too often but can easily
turn into a complete
cluster is changing or
removing footpegs, mainly
reinstalling the spring into
position whilst installing
the pivot pin.
After a bit of head
scratching and trial and
error we have mastered a
technique which only
takes seconds to do
without any skin removal
from the knuckles!
Before you remove the
pivot pin from the footpeg
just use a short length of
0.032” locking wire, guide
it through the spring tangs
and twist up until it starts
to compress the
spring. Then you can just
remove and install the pin
and ‘peg without a hassle.
When finished just install
the pin and cut the lock
wire to allow the spring
back in place. 30 seconds
and the job is done.
I hope this helps and
keep up the great work
with the mag.

Great tip, Glenn! ADB Tech
Editor Mat Boyd was impressed,
although jealous he didn’t think
of it first!
