Lenovo Yoga Slim 7
£675 from http://www.snipca.com/41904

I thank Computeractive for
bringing this laptop to my
attention (see review Issue 601, page
22). I loved it straight away. It has metal
casing. It’s also extremely light to carry,
and the picture on the 14in screen
looks great.
It has a backlit keyboard with a
simple on/off key via the space bar.
Sound quality is excellent too, with or
without headphones. Battery life is good

  • I charge it every two to three days. It
has two USB 3.0 and two USB-C ports.

It came with Windows 10, but it was
easy to upgrade to Windows 11.
The only downside is the camera. It’s
no good for selfies, but it’s fine for video
chats using Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

EMAIL
Replace corrupted Profile
folders in Thunderbird
I couldn’t agree more with
Howard L Smith’s tip in Issue 629
(page 41) recommending you back up
Thunderbird’s Profile folder. I’ve been
doing this for at least 15 years. This
folder not only holds emails, but also
the unique set-up configuration details
for each user, such as server ports set up
as POP3 or IMAP. You can access these
precise settings if they ever become
corrupted.
In such situations, simply delete the
corrupted Profile folder in the App Data
folder and copy the backup Profile in
its place. All that will be missing are
copies of emails sent since that backup.
Any missed incoming mail should still
be held in the server account(s)
Thunderbird holds, providing this has
been set up in the Accounts folder.
My backups are given appropriate file
names TB20220405 (ie, 5 April 2022),
so numerous backups will be in
chronological order if storing a year’s
worth (or more) of backups.

EBOOK READERS
Show the book you’re reading
as your Kindle screensaver
I finally got round to ditching my
6th-generation Kindle (bought in
2013), replacing it with the latest model
(£70 from http://www.snipca.com/41989)..) One
of the best things it can do that my old
model couldn’t is add the cover of the
book you’re reading as your screensaver
on the lock screen.
Tap the three dots at the top right of
the home screen, then Settings. Now tap
Device Options, then slide the Show

Cover option so it’s ‘on’ (see screenshot
below). If you don’t see this option, you
may need to update your Kindle’s
software. By the way, you can check
which generation Kindle you have at
http://www.snipca.com/41988.

TV STREAMING
Pair your Roku remote control
with your device
I love my Roku player. Or rather, I
loved it before the remote control
stopped working. At first, I thought the
batteries needed changing, but that
didn’t solve anything. Then I sought
help from some fellow Roku fans, and
they told me about the ‘pairing’ button
on the back, just below where the
batteries are stored.
Bring the remote control as close as you
can to your Roku device (I own the
Express 4K, £35 from http://www.snipca.

com/41987), then hold down the pairing
button for 3 seconds (pictured above).
This should make a pairing message
appear on screen. That was all I had to do.
It seemed that for some reason my control
had ceased to pair with my device.

SOFTWARE
Update share prices using
MSMoneyQuotes
Like John Tanzer (Readers’ Tips,
Issue 631), I still use Microsoft
Money, and have done for more than
18 years. I still find it essential for
managing my money. I update the price
of my share and fund holdings every day
using MSMoneyQuotes, which costs
$9.99 (about £8.14) for a one-off purchase
from https://gaiersoftware.com/money,
though there’s a free trial that lets you
use it 60 times. It’s a very useful tool, but
I do need to refer to the help pages now
and again whenever the link to MSN
Money fails.
I noticed that after I installed Windows
11, Microsoft Money would occasionally
cause my PC to slow down or hang for a
few minutes. I now run Money in Admin
mode and have had fewer problems.
