January 6: Thefirst China-EU foreign policy consultation was held in Brussels.
February 14: China-EU Foreign Affairs Ministers’Meeting was held in Beijing.
March 5: The 15th China-EU Human Rights Dialogue was held in Athens.
March 6: Queen Sofia of Spain kicked off herfive-day visit to China and
participated in relevant activities marking the 30th anniversary of the estab-
lishment of Sino-Spanish diplomatic relations.
April 3: Jiang Zemin, Chairman of the Central Military Commission, met with a
delegation led by Giscard d'Estaing, Chairman of the European Constitutional
Council, in Beijing.
April 25: Chinese President Hu Jintao met with visiting French Prime Minister
Raffarin in Beijing.
May 14: Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Romanian Prime Minister in
Beijing.
June 1: Chinese President Hu Jintao met with French President Chirac in Evian,
France before attending the informal North-South leaders’dialogue meeting.
June 3: China officially requested market economy status in the antidumping
investigation launched by the EU.
June 13: Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with European Union Trade
Commissioner Lamy in Beijing.
July 21: Chinese President Hu Jintao and Jiang Zemin, Chairman of The Central
Military Commission, separately met with visiting British Prime Minister Tony
Blair in Beijing.
August 19: Romanian President Ion Iliescu kicked off a seven-day visit to
China. August 20: the two heads of state held talks concerning enhancement of
bilateral relations and international issues of common concern, and announced
that both countries would develop comprehensive friendly cooperative
relationships.
