Superyachts could be used to reverse
thetrendofcoralreefdegradationby
spreading concrete tetrapods impregnated
with genetically selected super corals.
This is according to conservation
organisation Secore International, which
believes that the current method of
manually planting new corals is too slow
and labour intensive. “If we want restoration
toplayamoremeaningfulroleincoral
reefconservation,weneedtothinkin
newdirections,”saysexecutivedirector
DirkPetersen.“Oursowingapproachisan
importantstepasitwillallowlargenumbers
ofcoralstobeplantedinaveryshortamount
of time at significantly lower costs.”
