modest length.

We’d all like to have a

superyacht. Essentially it’s

your own luxury boutique

hotel, where you can unpack

your bags once and visit it

whenever your heart desires.

TheWhitehaven range

is the result of 40 years

of Australian maritime

involvement by Keith and

Ryan Hanson, blended with

the experience of one of the

finest boat manufacturing

regions in the Asia Pacific.

Taiwan has a long reputation

for quality, long-established

names being all built there,

New OceanYachts no

newcomer either. It builds

some of the finest vessels

up to 115ft (35m), while the

company president is a naval

architect, responsible for

some terrific hulls and this

Whitehaven is no exception.

A variable deadrise

for soft entry, combined

with spray strakes and the

inverted chines running

far aft and flattening, gains

hydrodynamic lift and makes

for a dry ride. It knocked

down the spray at around

30kts and turned smoothly

from chine to chine.

From astern the garage

houses a 3.2m tender and to

port is a watertight transom

door to the engineroom and

its two 1036hp Caterpillar

C18s powerplants.

Above the waterline

the elevated cockpit is a

platform for alfresco living.

understands that while it has

built this boat to go places,

on average more than 90 per

cent of time aboard is going

to be at anchor and therefore

it should feel as easy as life

shoreside.

Direct internal access to

the flybridge is available

via stairs on starboard.

Multipurpose in function, it is

far from just a place to drive

a boat from. A wetbar, TV,

lounge with slide-out double

bed make it another zone

altogether.

Descending back to the

main deck, the galley has

notable features to bring all

the convenience from land

to the boat. Forward of the

galley is the saloon, the step

up offering clear viewing

from all the seating. The

arrangement is very social.

Going below reinforces

the extra mile the builders

have gone to in order

to create truly liveable

accommodation. The

master starteroom is a

consummation of the

Hansons’ achievement – full

beam and full of superlatives.

Guest accommodation is

forward, comprising aVIP

suite and twin-bunk cabin.

There are a lot of small

touches and clever thoughts

that add up to a whole
