The original E-TEC direct-
injection technology was (and
remains, in midsize motors) very
successful. Directly injecting pre-
cise mixes of fuel and oxygen into
each cylinder is a proven winner.
But the company knew it could
do greater things yet, and chal-
lenged its engineers to create
an entirely new line, retaining
the E-TEC DI technology but
otherwise giving its engineers
three goals: increased power,reduced fuel consumption and
fewer emissions. Three goals, and
a clean slate.
They began by designing blocks
built for direct injection, not car-
bureted fuel, and ad-
vanced from there.
The result? E-TEC
G2 (for second gen-
eration.) Up tothirty

than competitors’
four-strokes. Up to fif-
teen percent less fuel
consumption.* Up to
seventy-five percent
fewer emissions.*
But the innovative
designing didn’t stop
there. Only when
smoothly integrated

boat could the tech-

integration seamless
with its Intelligent
