Whoever originally coined the phrase “put the pedal to the metal” was obviously not thinking of a pontoon

boat. But if you substitute “throttle” for “pedal,” then for the modern pontoon, it works. Thanks to advance-

ments in construction and design, we’ve now got pontoon boats with performance attributes capable of

handling big power plants, including both outboards and sterndrives. That said, the original ’toon mission
