yard. “Mauna Kea” has been designed according to this concept. With
an LOA of 110 metres it is the largest yacht RC Design has come up
with. It is named after a dormant volcano situated on Hawaii island
which soars up in the sky well above the earth below it with long
steep lava walls which inspired the symmetry of the yacht’s super-
structure. In fact one of the yacht’s features is a long water slide which
starts at the top of “Mauna Kea” and descends till it hits the water in

of the volcano till it plunges into the ocean below.
According to Roberto Curtò : “New ideas are no one’s invention, they
are born of the clients’ needs and whims. These are then developed by
someone who’s got the talent to interpret them”. In the case in point I
very much wanted to draw up a yacht which could contextually allow
guests to dash from bow to stern without having to pass through the
interiors, and to be able to move fast in an amusing way that is by
sliding from one deck to the other to the re-freshening water in the
awaiting pool as if you were running away from an erupting volcano!”.
“Thanks to the staircase built specially to allow guests to reach the
helipad and pool without approaching the owner’s wide body suite, it
is well secluded and offers absolute privacy, while the main deck which
from the guests’ point of view is the upper one and this together with
the dining area situated below it, conveys a feeling of even greater
accrued space to the whole of the stern section. From there you can
choose to go up one deck comfortably, or go down to the beach club
or to the movie room”.
Super Yachts Monaco say “we are currently working with Roberto to
develop the project, and channelling our brokers’ experience to better
understand owners’ requests. We’re involved in both markets with
Roberto, with the promotion and the possible sale of his design to
anyone wishing to approach us directly or through his broker”
