using my equipment for a long time now and there’s a workflow that
I like, and I’m not bored with it yet. I don’t need to shake things up.
I’ve found my coal seam and I’m mining it.

MB Have you had much reaction to the B&W pictures?

BP Yes, it’s very interesting hearing them. They’ve all been quite
nice, but I don’t really hold much weight with what people say any
more. When you start off and someone says they like your images

  • that’s great, we all need an audience. But there comes a time,

especially if you’re running tours regularly, that you get people
telling you different opinions about your stuff all the time, and
you suddenly find the reason why they like one of your images is
completely different from the reason you like it. You start realising
that it doesn’t really matter what other people think. You’ve just got
to do it because you like doing it. You’re doing it really for yourself.
So long as I’m still happy about where I’m going with my work
then that’s going to keep my enthusiasm. When I get people saying
they like things, that’s really nice, but I think I’m just doing it
because I’m doing it.
