Feeling is Believing
An exhibition at the Prado Museum helped those with visual impairments
discover art through another sense—touch.
TECHNOLOGY MIGHT OF TEN BE
depicted as the scary, unfeeling robot
of the future but, more often than not,
it’s a brilliant aid we can use to boost,
not diminish, our humanity. h e
Museo Nacional del Prado set up an
exhibition with six artworks of vary-
ing styles printed three-dimensionally
for sight-impaired visitors to touch—
allowing them to see with their
i ngers and therefore gain admittance
to a part of culture from which they’re
often excluded. h ere was informa-
tion in braille, audioguides and even
opaque glasses for those with sight
wanting to share the experience.
