(ff) #1
be too fussy with details, mainly outlines and major
marks and shadows.

Step Two
Using masking tape, secure paper to a hard surface
such as MDF or drafting table to give a stable
surface and stop your paper moving about.

Step Three
Starting at the top left corner, begin applying dots
with your pen and work rock by rock. Keep referring
to the black and white picture to see where the
shadows are, and the marks and blemishes on the
rocks. Where there are highlights and bright sun,
I leave the paper blank. It doesn’t have to be an
exact replica of the photo; use your imagination
and ‘artistic licence’ to place dots, so long as the
inished drawing looks like rocks and you are happy
with it.
Always use a piece of clean scrap paper under
your hand when working to prevent smudging
pencil lines, and also to keep oil from your hand
being left on the paper. You need to keep the paper
as clean as possible to get the best results from
your pen.

Step Four
Continue until the whole picture is done. When
inished, erase pencil lines and use a soft brush to
brush away residue.
