THE PROMISE OF TOTAL AUTO-
MATION Anne Faucheret curates this group
exhibition that uses a title, more eerie than
utopian, to ambivalently explore the drive to
have technology accomplish all human tasks.

Philippe Decrauzat and Alan Licht, Harry
Dodge and more. On view through to May 29.
Kunsthalle Wien, Museumsplatz 1.
JUMANA MANNA The young Berlin- and
Jerusalem-based artist is best known for her
feature-length film, entitled A magical sub-
stance flows into me, which necessitated
travel throughout Israel and Palestine to
reinterpret an ethnographic 1930s radio docu-
mentary on the “oriental” music of the
region. The corridor of the exhibition contains
a series of new vase-like sculptures. To May 1.

in the 1960s and 1970s that appealed equally
to the Light and Space–isms of California and
the Judd-isms of New York. This thorough
exhibition shows Bell’s many facets—literally, as
he often employed glass—including two major
installations from the 1980s and 1990s. To Apr.

JAMES CASEBERE Photographing con-

scapes is now a thing, but the Michigan artist
made it so, focusing on domestic and architec-

MARCEL BROODTHAERS An imperative
show if you can get to it: this is the first retro-
spective of the late Belgian conceptualist in
New York, made possible by MoMA’s 2011 acqui-
sition of the Daled Collection, containing more
than 60 key works. To May 15. 11 W. 53rd St.
JOHN AKOMFRAH This indelible three-
channel film was one of the toasts of Venice
last year: an epic work, inspired in part by
Moby-Dick, that ostensibly depicts the whal-
ing industry but quickly becomes an allegory
for migration, exploitation and so much more.
To Apr. 10. Arnolfini, 16 Narrow Quay, Bristol.
