Q&A
IGOR LOBANOV
Had you used the concept of false
decks before?
I thinkitisauniquesolution.
We were originally working on
itasaconceptandweexhibited
itonascalemodelattheMonaco
Yacht Show in 2010, but people
didn’t get it. But then we got the
chance to use it onJubilee.Itisn’t
because her height is excessive,
but the false decks give the
illusion that she is longer and have
apositiveeffectontheyacht’s
proportional aesthetics.
Will you use the technique again?
We already have some interesting
requests to do so and there are
differentwayswecandoit.We
areopeningupthepossibilities,
but other designers can do it as
well. I don’t mind.
And the funnel is your favourite
feature?
Yes,Ithinkitisverycool.We

Jubilee’s most distinctive feature is her three false decks – interspersed between her four actual
external decks – which are designed to give the illusion of a longer yacht. They are areas of
smoked glass and teak decking, and have LED lighting to maintain the impression at night.
Some of the false deck areas are quite sizeable – the aft end of the lower false deck, which
partly overhangs the pool, for instance, is 90m^2 – but they are, nonetheless, inaccessible.
However, Igor Lobanov thinks that Jubilee’s usable deck space is larger than that on any other
yacht built for a Middle Eastern client. Read more about her at boatint.com/jubilee
