Jeanneau for the inherently
smooth-riding hull.”
Wide Open Throttle on the
test day was a brisk 31.2kts
at 3060rpm and Lockwood
commented, “Proving its
eagerness, the Prestige 42
accelerated snappily to 16kts
at 1980rpm, and a contented
20kts cruise at 2200 to
2230rpm. At 2500rpm the
boat galloped along at 22.5
to 24.7kts, depending on the
direction of the tide, where
the twin 425hp Cummins
consumed 87 to 91Lt/h. That
would give a safe cruising
range of about 300 nautical
miles. Terrific effi ciency.”
All Jeanneau boats
are built to very high
construction standards
with strong fibreglass
hulls and this one with

attractive, rounded curves
in all of the deck and
internal mouldings. She
has a dance floor sized
boarding platform leading
to a functional rear cockpit,
this one with teak decks
throughout. Underneath is
a huge lazarette which also
houses the generator plus
daily service access to the
engine room. The gunwale
height is nice and high and
the walkways around the
cabin make it easy to reach
the sunpad area on the
large front deck. There’s an
enticing rear lounge with
handy storage beneath
and the extended flybridge
is easily accessed with a
moulded stairwell. It’s more
of a sports sunbridge than
a keen gamefisher but hey,

the marlin don’t know that if
you want to try!
The flybridge features a
pair of skipper’s seats on
pedestals with comfortable
upholstered lounges for
the rest of the crew to
enjoy a sun-filled romp in
the briny. There’s a full set
of engine controls with
trim tab switchgear and a
combination of Raymarine
and Garmin electronics to
lead the way while the rear
targa arch adds a sporty
touch and the large bimini
tames the beating sun.
The Jeanneau 42 Prestige
pre-dates the current trend
to boxy and minimalistic
design with an internal fit
out that I can only describe
as intimate. The plush
tan leather upholstery is

exceptionally well rounded
and thickly cushioned. Its
saloon area is a masterpiece
of inviting character with
the sensible faux teak
floor and hand-crafted
cherrywood components,
gloss timber panelling,
white linings and trim
all highlighted by the
curvaceous window lines.
The skipper doesn’t have to
be left alone upstairs if the
weather is a bit inclement
with the helm forming an
intricate part of the internal
aesthetics and flow.
The level of trim is
continued throughout
and the feeling of space
is expanded by towering
ceiling heights. She features
a lovely double island bed in
the forward stateroom with
